General Alexander Odeareduo Ogomudia was born on 29 December 1949 in Uzere, Isoko South, Delta State. He joined the Nigerian Defence Academy as a cadet on 13 October 1969 and was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Signal Corps on 11 March 1972. During his career, he attended the Signal Officers Basic Course, USA, Signals Officers’ Degree Engineer Course, India, Battalion Commanders’ Course Jaji and the National War College Course, Lagos. He has degrees in Electrical Electronics Engineering from the Obafemi Awolowo University Ile- Ife and University of Ibadan.
He was the Commander 53 Signals Regiment, Director of Telecommunications Headquarters Nigerian Army Signals and Colonel Co- ordination, Headquarters Nigerian Army Signal. He was a Directing Staff at the Command and Staff College and National War College before becoming Deputy Commandant, Nigerian Army Signals and School and then Commandant Nigerian Army Signals and School. He was appointed General Officer Commanding 1 Mechanized Division and later Chief of Army Staff on 1 April 2001. General Ogomudia became the Chief of Defence Staff on 9 Jun 2003. He retired voluntarily on 1 June 2006. He enjoys farming, music and engineering designs.
